Deanna Durbin stars in this taut film noir from director Robert Siodmak in a role unlike anything else she did in her entire movie career.

Newly married to Southern aristocrat Robert Monett (Gene Kelly), Jackie Lamont (Deanna) soon finds her life spiralling out of control when he commits a murder, is arrested and gaoled. Tormented by love for her husband, Jackie leaves town, changes her name and gets a job as a singer in a New Orleans bar. But Robert escapes from prison and with malice in his mind, tracks her down.

Deanna gets to sing Irvin Berlins Always and Frank Loessers Spring Will Be a Little Late this Year. The films score by Hans Salter received an Academy Award nomination.
